Is a 6000DI/PRO worth

GaryF

$175...

It has the light blue meter and the blue max 800 coil with rechargeable battery pack..This has the black box housing not the old blue one.

Thoughts??

those units pop off around 200.00 on ebay with the 950 coil..... the blue max 800 is a so so coil on the 6000 / di pro.... it's ok.... but the detector works best with the 950 or a 600..... any 6.59 khz 950 should work.... blue max, black max, and ULC from the current industrial model....
if some one's tryin to sell you that unit ... i'd offer em 150.00.... with the idea in mind that you have to get the right coil.... the ULC 950 (aka eclipse) will run you 119.00 not including tax....

Gary--my thoughts!----IF and I repeat--IF the detector itself is in good working order and IF the rechargeable battery is "still good"--and IF the coil is in good condition & functioning properly--I would say yes, it would be worth the $175.--On older detectors a lot of it is in "the eye of the beholder" (as far as price & dealings).--If you can't check it on with a "hands on"--can you get it sent to you "on approval".---Unless a person knows the rep. of the guy on the other end (without getting a "hands on") can always be a bit of a risk.---If the detector is to be sent to you-get all the info on it you can first.------Well, you wanted my thoughts!!!! ---------Regards, Del

Well....

First thanks for the replies. Now...no chance for a hands on...and that's the only coil he has for it and he said the battery pack is new. it is a 6000 DI Pro SL and it seems okay from all the pic but so would a paperweight... (point taken)

I've read up on the detector reviews for the SL all over the web and it seems like other than being heavy it really would be something I would like to own...I had a Compass XP Pro and loved the analog so I'm hoping this will come close to that gem in terms of performance.

I am going to go for it....I hope I don't get bit.

You'll probably be all right Gary--hope so.----This doesn't have anything to do with condition but one other thing you might do is have him give you the #'s off that battery pack, then call Whites & ask them the (approximate) age of the battery pack (based on the #'s).---The first 4 #'s of the S/N on the detector tells the year, mo., & day of manufacture.--As I said, this has little to do with condition but is nice to know.--Those battery packs do "go bad" on occasion.--I've burned a couple of them up.---Ask him for a alkaline battery pod holder for the detector to (back up for the rechargeable pack).----Hope this helps you somewhat.-------Best regards, Del

6000 Di Pro SLs are black, & have a multicolored meter, not light blue. I bought mine new in 1994, & it still serves me VERY WELL. Used it at an old school this AM. Wouldn't take a penny less than $500 for it. Yes, the 5.3 & 950 coils outperform the 8"...I have all three.

Hay Barguy, you seem to know your pro,s can you tell me the deference between the 5900 sl pro and the 6000 pro sl? thanks Dean

Wellllll Dean, not being a techie, I can't tell you much about the innards, but the only differences noted in the 1993 catalog are:

6000 Di Pro SL...1) Silent search is OK & 2) More importantly, the 6000 has Autotrac ground balance in lieu of the "10 turn" tuner on the 5900.

I do not run "silent" & I LOVE the Autotrac ground balance.

If memory serves, the "SL" designation is simply for the S-shaped, curved handle.

If Monte notes this topic, he may chime in with some more info & intricate details.

If you can find a copy of the 131 page book by Bob Brockett..."Taking A Closer Look At Metal Detector Discrimination", about $9, buy it. Most ot the info contained therein relates directly to the 5900/6000. Some White's dealers still have copies.

I struggled along with mine with a K****C* supplied H*tSh*t coil for years until I wised up & bought a BE 5.3! My MXT stays in the closet most of the time...I guess I need to take the time to learn to use it. But the 6000 produces, so...!

Hope this helps!

DR

Thanks Barguy, I have been looking at getting a 6000, or 5900. Have not made up my mind yet. Thanks for the reply, Dean

thanks Gary G.A.P.metal

The SL actually means Slim Line...it is the slimmer black box over the big blue box...
