iron

I seem to get a lot of iron hits. Just don't want to pass anything up. I am using a stock coil with the MXT and I am in Southeastern VA, both coin and relic hunts have seen a lot of iron hits....

I have found rusted pocket knife ornaments from iron fences tools a lot of car parts .But i thought a lot of civil war items come in the iron range,i have dug a lot of bullet tips in that range. If there is a lot of positive finds in your area i would take time to dig them especially if deep.I have the stock coil but i prefer the 6" ex dd coil and 10" ex dd coil good depth on both and a better id on targets with a better audio response.

I would think that it depends on what you are hunting for. If you are relic hunting I would think you would dig those iron signals. I usually am hunting in the coin and jewery mode and I don't dig many iron signals. Only once in awhile will I dig iron and it usually is iron junk. HH Dennis in Idaho

If it was an old site with good prospects, yes I would dig the iron. If the signal was deep for sure. On modern sites I usually would say no. A new key or dogs tag would be no big deal but sometimes you can find some interesting items. Rob

I hope this answers your question, LOL!!! I ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS DIG THAT IRON!!! I'm a relic hunter and the GOOD STUFF is ALWAYS under that iron. There might even be a couple gold coins under all that stuff, hint hint!

I did a relic hunt a couple of years ago and dug all iron signals at an old gold mining camp and this photo shows just a portion of my finds. I normally hunt in coin and jewelery mode and ignore iron targets, but when an iron target sounds good (what ever that means) I will dig it. Sometimes, which are few and far between, I will find something like a pocket knife. I found this badge using another detector and it was reading iron. Some guys dig everything but I don't. Its your decision. HH Dennis in Idaho

I dig allot of iron, some of my best finds are old antique items pieces of history..

WOW! Thanks for the help! I am heading out today, we have permission to hunt 3 old properties, last weekend i didn't dig the iron hits, and we were on a plowed field that sits between 2 old homes, one was used a a civil war hospital, but we can always go back and dig some of those iron hits....:)

Unfortunately up here there using iron (nickel plated ) coins so have to dig all iron signals
