It looks like a replacement electric soldering iron tip like I used as a kid. They were a lot bigger than todays but the principal is the same.

It is solid, heavy, so Kt, you might be close, I like the solder tip idea.. that's a possibility, maybe for the old torch type..? but I still think it had to be an anchor for something that is heavy and needs to stay in place. Just can't think what that thing would be. thanks for the ideas!
