Iron probability % ?

Does anyone know what the MXT bases this information on? Does it simply check the VDI and confidence block and base % iron on that info or is there other information being used only in the prospecting mode thats not available in the other operating modes?
Thanks in advance for your response

Thanks Jeff, I ordered your book but haven't received it yet. Looking forward to reading it. I wonder why whites would recommend in the relic hunting section of the DVD that came with my mxt to switch to the prospecting mode to check iron probability % when all the information available is already being displayed in the VDI # and the block? Am I missing something here? Not doubting you at all, just doesn't make sense to me.

HI Jeff

Do you feel that with the GMT's higher frequency the iron % reading may be designed to err more on the safe side to prevent missing targets in bad ground? Being a lower frequency the MXT may handle man made iron in hot ground better(?)... hence the difference in iron % readings you noted? Of course if you did test the difference in readings in hot ground on something like an undug sliver of rusty wire then I'm "all wet" with my theory .

I can sorta.. kinda.. understand the thought process behind that decision. Most nugget hunters will probably set their own limit when hunting around those trashy old timer diggings anyway.

Thanks

Thanks again Jeff, I understand now. Guess I was hoping there was more to it. Received your book in the mail today. Sure looks good on the outside I like the spiral binding. Think I'll dig in and have a read.

.... here in the Mojave Desert goldfields the rule of thumb is to dig all targets registering less than 75% iron. Of course, really faint signals cannot properly ID, thus must be dug as a matter of course. HH jim

Now I just need to get back out west someday.
