Iron Mask vs. disc.

What settings do you pros use in trashy areas like parks and around old farm houses? What do you think about iron mask -16 w/ferrous tones? I've been using that because with all the nulling I feel like I'm missing good targets. And how much depth do I lose when I go from the stock coil to the 8"? Here in west Mich. we have sandy soil and not much mineralization. Thanks.

I think if your hunting iron, the the 8 inch is going to increase depth, in cleaner areas you lose a couple inches with the 8 inch.. I usuallu dont go as low as -16 as I find -15 will still knock out most nails and still pick up stuff in the nulls, just gotta go slow

That folks who like to hunt relics, that minus 16 and ferrous mode is the way to go. I do not hunt relics much so I use minus 10 and Conduct as my settings. Try hunting the same area both ways and mark your targets and when done, dig all targets and you should learn a lot.

Jim if your hunting the cellar holes you should really try dropping iron mask down a bit farther than -10.. at least -13 it still knocks out most iron and definately picks off some stuff out of the iron... that -10 area will still null good targets in iron.. you will get more falses but heck those old pounded sites so quiet anyway its nice to hear something even if it is a false <IMG SRC="/forums/images/smile.gif" BORDER=0 ALT="">
