The nain advantage, besides hearing low reading good targets that dont fall in normal areas ofthe screen is you get less masking from iron, depending on the setting.. you also will hear 2 non ferrous targets close to each other that a pattern may knock out.. Kind of a target averaging thing.. some spots it is impossible to run in and not go crazy from all the signals, but for the most part I am in iron mask all the time.. I hunt around old foundations loaded with nails and iron. I have found large cents and other coins in that iron that read left of center of smart screen, but audibly sound good, at least in conductive mode. a coin pattern wouldve knocked those out in a second.. anyways thats the advantage.. I dig all non iron signals at a site eventually anyway, but even if you dont, just listen for the targets that give a solid response with out wavering tones from one angle to another, you would be suprised at the good stuff that reads out of a coin pattern, and you wont leave many good targets.. normal audio fast response and iron mask.. but those are the setytings I use at my old sites.. might not be everyones preference
