Iron Mask Question...

Does anybody know if the iron mask of a BBS detector contributes to poor black sand performance? In other words will iron mask cause a BBS detector to null over black sand? In that case, on BBS mashines where one can turn off Iron Mask, would there be an improvement detecting in black sand?

I ask because there is a beach I detect on Caribbean vacations that has a mix of black sand, junk and gold. But it drives my Excalibur 800 buggy. Like it's constantly nulling out.

Thanks SH34

So your detecting Guadeloupe? Have you tried a pulse unit? I don't have an excalibur yet but I did hear they false alot in heavy black sands? I don't have much trouble with the DF in black sand just slow the pulse delay down it helps the threshold smooth out.

We hunt every Island in the Caribbean. The Excaliburs have found the most gold in the past, but have real problems in black sand like in Guadeloupe. I want to try a Sovereign GT in black sand to see if it can punch deeper with IM off. I do us an Infinium and it loves gold and goes deep! I call the Infinium the Excalibur of PIs, because it's the first PI where I've avoided digging about 50% of the junk! Plus, like an Excal the Infinium is a gold magnet! I once tried a PI Pro- dug 175 targets in a row and 174 were junk! But my first target was a gold chain in ankle deep water! I did like how fast a machine the PI Pro was. Went back to Excalibur and never wanted to try a PI again. Well I finally did and the Infinium found more than 7 Oz's gold on 1 trip, the first time using it! But I still love the Excalibur and wonder if a waterproof Sovereign might work better in black sand? I may even waterproof my Explorer XS. But I know Excals better. I would really like to know if Iron Mask on with an Excalibur causes problems in heavy black sand, or actually helps? Oh, I hear some great things on the DF! SH34.
