Iron mask or discriminate

Seems like I'm one of the few that still hunt in the discriminate mode. I just can't seem to bring myself to hunt in iron mask. Maybe it's my age. I'm 68 and I just don't like to dig that much anymore. Seems like I go more for quantity and not quality. Every time I go out I tell myself I'm going for IM and I end up with the smart screen and a lot of discrimination. Are there any others out there that hunt like this or is it just me. 20 years ago or so I would dig all day and think nothing of it. Boy getting old is hell. My first love is coinshooting and I can probably match anyone for quantity but they're usually pretty shallow and clad. I still find occasional silver but not like I use to.
Guess I'm just looking for sympathy or someone to kick me in the butt and tell me again why IM is so great. Seems like I see the crosshair jumping all over the place and here all the sounds and get scared off.

Chuck,
Nothing wrong with hunting like you want. Me and the wife have been hunting for a few years and mainly get modern clad and once in a while a silver coin pops up. I don't think it's the getting older it's the stuff is just plain harder to find than it used to be.
Have a good time doing it any way you want.

Thanks Harold. I think that I use to get a lot more kick out of digging silver than I do now. I really believe that I'd rather dig just clad now and average my $1.00 an hour or so on the shallower stuff. Coins is my first love and always has been. It's all I've ever hunted for for about 20 years except when we go to the beach, then I dig everything. You're right about the stuff getting harder to find.

Well Chuck, if your satisfied with clad and a piece of silver every now and then .. thats o.k.
But it's easier than you might think .. try this:
If you know you're going out for say 2 hours, make yourself start out in IM -15 for the first 30 minutes and just dig the upper right targets. Start out with auto sense set at about 24 or so or(where ever the thing runs stable at) and go from there. When you run across those tight sounding nulls "slow way down" and check all around them at "ever angle" and you will get surprised what you will find. Very few machines I have used in my 15 years of detecting will actually seperate the silver from the iron like an Explorer will. But you have to go SLOW and really listen to the sounds in IM more than where the target lands on the screen .. but that will come to you naturally as you practice in IM. Those really sweet coins are still out there to be found ! Happy Hunting
