Iron Mask Hunting Question???

Hello,
After 20 years as a White's user, I'm now a brand new Minelab XS Explorer user, and BOY do I feel like a ROOKIE!!! HELP!! I am doing the best I can hunting with the iron mask setting on and set relatively low (-10ish), and the question I have is this:
While hunting with the iron mask setting such as I've described, what other settings should I have in place while hunting, and at what levels? (I have been using the 8in stealth loop)
Ant other suggestions, while I am learning the tones? I am having LOTS of trouble with identifying targets (never had this problem with the XLT). I can't tell a quarter from a penny or a dime with the XS? Nor can I seem to find a nickel?? Only pennies, and an occasional quarter and a dime (one silver dime so far).
Any suggestions, and help would be greatly appreciated!!! Tom

Tom, read Andy Sabisch's book on the explorer and visit these three sites to get started.

Tom you are a rookie so am I. i have 2 garrett units the 2500 & 1500.i have read the owners manual and andys book about 25 times each this LONG COLD WINTER IN WISC>and quess what i cant find a thing either i quess you and me are in the same boat.up s---s creek without a paddle.but according to all the great info provided by our fellow thers, the exp.xs will take a little while until you have it figured out. SO DONT ABONDON THE SHIP <IMG SRC="/forums/images/csflag.gif" BORDER=0 ALT="::">:: I AM QUITE SURE EVERYONE ON THIS CLASSROOM <HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS AS US WHEN THEY FIRST STARTED WITH THE MINELAB EXP>XS .and eveyone is more then helpful if you have a question Robert in wisc. i quess we are in purgatory right now. but from here you can only go up.

tom part of my message didnt work out what i meant is that everyone that has an exp.xs probally had the same problems as us when they first started out but anything worthwhile takes time to learn

To start with since your using an 8" coil up your gain to around 7,use the highest level of sensitifity you can with out alot of falsing, and always do a noise cancel when starting the hunt orif you start having falsing. Since you are used to a Whites slow your swing speed down,go slow. Both dimes and quarters hit in the upper right of the screen a little right of penny's,nic's hit alittle right of center on the bottom full crosshairs showing. Most of all just slow down and have patience the explorer is a great detector and you'll get the hang of it.
