Iron Mask and nails

I am working on getting better at using Iron Mask. Typically set at -6 to -8. sens at 20-26 depend on soil. I have 2 questions, first I have done a great job at digging nails, old rusty nails. Do they sometimes fool everyone else in Iron mask. ? I sometimes switch off IM and go to discrim, to check signal but still find nail. The cursor will bounce left to right like silver, but it it is not. Why is XS respond like this? I guess it is halo. Is this common problem, and what else can I do to cut down on fillin' my bag with nails
Depth,I have found dozen or so wheats at 8 to 9 inches, but no silver, I listen for higher pitched , but repeatable sounds and dig. I guess Im looking for what should I be listening for with deeper coins silver or otherwise. I get the feeling I am missing something cause I cant get passed that 8 or 9" barrier
Thanks in advance

Joe,
I too used to dig a LOT of rusty nails, but have got it now that I still get them, but not as many as I did before and when I do dig one it was one of the iffy signals that I hate to pass up.
What I have been doing is when I get one of these high pitched signals and going by the tones and if it is good sounding and repeatable I will turn and try it at a 90 degree angle and if it is still iffy I will turn and come at it from another angle and if it is in the same place every time I know it is good, but I have notice rusty nails and other iron will move or the tones will change when comming from a differnt angle.
When in doubt I alway dig.

Get more experience in on the Explorer.Once you get what it is saying down you will not mind digging a rusty square nail once in a while after you have dug a few silver dimes with nails in the same hole.
If you are digging 8-9" wheat pennies you just haven't got your coil over silver yet.
Just have faith in your detector, the silver will come.
It is to easy to tell you how not to dig nails, but the fact is that personal experience is the best tool.
I know it sounds like a smartass response, but it really will start to click with a buch of hours in on it.You are getting deep targets now,the deep silver is right around the corner

Generally the only time a nail gets me good is if its bent, and sometimes the bigger real rusty ones will be too close in audio and where they show up to pass.. the majority of nails you will have a hard time getting a repeatable signal(at least from 2 angles) where a coin will almost always hit from more than one angle.. for now if you get those iffy ones.. circle the target while sweeping the target with little side to side motion over it.. if you get a decent hot from nore than 2 angles dig it, if not leave it.. let me know how many nails you get using this method.. oh yeah if you get a hit from other angles and it doesnt seem to be coming from the same spot it was in another.. thats a tell tale sign of iron
