Iron Mask 22 Observations

I have been using Bryce' suggested settings with iron mask=22 turned on. The coins I am now finding are registering at the top of the smart find but more towards the iron range; say for instance 18 29 on the digital scale (ended up as wheat penny). If someone was hunting in the normal coin mode, they would not find these coins. I dug a few wheats, Lincolns, and a couple clad dimes this evening, all of which were falling in the same ID area. The signals have been generally good from all angles and around 8" depth. I also did dig another silver ring last night.

I have dug lots of wheat pennies and dimes at depth that read right next to my iron mask line, the conductivity stays good. I have read articles about some guys that hunt in an open screen digging old deep crusted coins that will hit almost in the top left corner,

I think this will be my next experiment. I tried the open screen and was getting a lot of deep hits in the upper left of the screen.

Lots of rusted iron will read in there, if its a trashy area you will be digging a lot of junk, but u may pull a couple good finds to make it worth it, i basically hunt by sound only, i look at the screen but it doesnt help me decide wether its digable or not, as long as my ears tell me its good i could care less where the crosshairs are, but im not running an open screen, too many rusted items around where i hunt

I dont get that much difference on wheats...... now the IH and V or shield nickels can be all over the screen. Im not sure the IM is making these shifts more than the metal, minerals, depth and various sensitivity setting you are using. Have you tested turning down the IM to say 28 and seeing if you get the same results? Im a digger so if its not iron ill check it out on deep targets.
