Iron Black sand Salt and Me.

There is a beach I hunted here with a layer of black sand/mud and thick as penut butter ( sticks to everything). The water has gone out but it is HIGHLY mineralized salt. Lots of falsing with some detectors. On top of that are 3-4 feet of burried iron and wood remains of the old piers. TONS of pipe and iorn... tons tons tons. But some good targets and rings come out of there. I want to go back with my EX II but am looking for some suggestions to improve the finds as everthing has been hit really hard 3 years ago and now everything is deep I mean deep, Im useing a 14 in coil. Last year I went and just picked a spot to dig next to some junk. Dug a big hole and found bottles and some stuff. That is what you do now as everything is so deep. Do any of you hunt in areas like this? any suggestions?

Tell me it isnt so...I can't be the only one hunting in a spot like that... I feel so all alone. Maybe i'll give up n go back to coin shootin in at the parks.:pulltab:

Hi utah,
I had the same problem with certain sections of beaches where I live. I was hardly getting any signals when I first started detecting the beaches, started out with my Explorer SE, apparently they are searched hard. Some areas have heavy black sand (10") thick and some don't. I quickly learned that I had to use ppmode otherwise you can go for an hour without getting an actual signal.

Your situation may or may not be different and I don't know if you're new to this or experianced, but you can try it.

Thanks Bence, at this point after having searched that area for over 5 years I am willing to try your advice. I am certian there may be a few thin targets left.
