Irom Mask - Iron Reject

Here's my understanding of Iron Mask.
Iron Mask is Iron reject...Mask/Reject. Think of your discriminator as a 'Masking tool' instead of a 'discriminating tool.' You want to reject pulltabs? then mask them out; want to reject bottle caps? then mask them out; you want to reject foil? then mask it out. Mask/Disc/reject, all the same thing only Iron Mask is used as a name for rejecting the area on a given scale where iron begins and ends, and where it is most prevalent.
Many detectors have Iron discriminated out completely, you can only find iron when in an all metal mode. Other detectors give you a choice to accept all iron or not to accept all iron with the push of a button. The more recent Sovereigns masked [rejected] all iron using "Iron Mask," it was fully on at all times and it would null out on most all iron, it is similar to the Explorer's Iron Mask zero(0) ---you could hear the iron signals in the Sov's pinpoint mode though.
The Explorer's Iron Mask is pretty much the same as the Sovs however with the Explorer you can adjust how much iron you wish to reject(mask) from virtually rejecting all iron to accepting all iron.
When you run Iron Mask zero(0), you are generally right on the edge of where iron begins to show up with signals, as you lower the amount of 'Iron Mask you lower the rejection to iron and the more iron you will hear. I consider lowering Iron Mask to be when you go from zero(0) to a negative setting, for example you are lowering your Iron Mask setting when you go from a (-4) to a (-6), or a (-:geek: to a (-10).
Except for some ferrous coins there should be NO coins or nonferrous jewelry that falls within the Iron Mask area from (0) thru a (-16). However, there is definitely nonferrous coins and jewelry to be found in the (0) to (-16) because of the effects that iron has on any nonferrous items next to or near it. Iron can affect where a silver dime or other similar nonferrous target shows up on the Smartfind and Digital screens. As we know some iron shows up on the coins side of the screen too.
This is just my take on it and I'm sure one could write a book filled with details on the subject of Iron Mask so this is certainly more or less just a note on the subject. My point is that Iron Mask is a name given for rejecting the area where iron falls.

That sounds like the way I understand it too, so if the iron mask is 0 you may miss a few good coins close to a iron object as it will mask out the coin, this will also hold true to pattern set up for coins only.
