Invite Tomorrow, perfect for my CZ3D 1021

My first Fisher about three years ago was a brand new CZ3d. I love it but always heard the 1021s were hotter. I have an invite to hit an old fair grounds tomorrow. Buddy says the coins are deep and old. I am going to take the 1021 as my main detector tomorrow. I won't leave my LTD home though. I can check my friend's deep hits with both machines or enjoy some of my own. Looks like a win, win for me. I guess I should really take my regular CZ3 too but a guy only has so many hands. Will update what I find out about my new machine.

Started out with the CZ, swung it for about three hours and just wasn't having much luck. Switched to my LTD found a few modern coins. Got the CZ back out and realized after hunting with it for another 40 minutes or so that it just wasn't acting right. Checked the batteries and they were near dead. Opened the door to change them and realized that I had the batteries that I purchased it with, mis matched and apparently one was stronger than another. Got new batteries in the CZ and it was a new machine. The only problem, I was pretty tired by then. Hoping to go back, the site was amazing. Lots of history, guy had a illustration of the grounds in the 1870s and it is a place worth hitting again.

Don it would be interesting to compare deep silver dime signals between the two. I suspect the CZ will get dime sized and smaller silver a lot deeper then the LTD will....at least in my dirt that's been my experience.

So many CZs, so little time. I almost donated my arm to science after this trip. Thought it was gong to fall off. Tonight, I added to my many mysteries by breaking out my CZ70 and doing a little testing in the yard. Wow, now I want enough time to try it out in the field too. It seems deep and pretty positive on ID.
Just got to work my arm strength up and find a decent day and place to try them all. F75 is sure easier to swing for hours on end. Hope to get out this weekend.

Thanks, Don

Gee, am I slow. Since I want to try to CZ in other places, and it kills me to swing it more than four or five hours - - - why don't I go to the CZ70 and hip mount it? The handle broke on my water hunting vacation and I hip mounted it and got along fine. I just read that you could overdrive the CZ70 up to EMI limits. It has a backlight and seems to lock on targets hard. Seems like the direction I need to go. I will save the 1021 vs normal CZ3 for another day.

Easy way to tell if your batteries are low is the VCO pinpoint starts acting up and cutting off......actually pinpoint pulls a lot of juice and many beach hunters just pinpoint by crisscrossing in Disc. as accurate spot on pinpoint is not needed for a scoop or shovel..Do expect your batteries to last longer using this method..Not recommended for land use where accurate on the spot pinpoint is needed..

Was wondering why you didn't hip mount it? Do they also chest mount?

Sounds like a great place to hunt. Good luck next time there.

I have never looked in to mounting the CZ3d. I know the CZ70 pro is the easiest detector I have ever seen to hipmount. Not only does it come with a nice belt plate courtesy of Fisher, you can rig one pretty easily. My detector handle broke in California on vacation and we criss-crossed wire ties and made a hipmount. I used it at the beach two or three days with no problem. Now, I have a chest mount on the way. I want it to do some shallow water hunting. Not sure which CZ I prefer at this point. Too little time and too many CZs to sort out.

The advantage that the LTD is that if you are in an area that is heavy with iron, like nails, the LTD will unmask targets more readily.
The CZ will also work but just slightly not quite as well whilst working in an environment loaded with complex target scenarios including iron covering a coin.
The CZ 3D will have a slightly better target i.d. in my opinion under normal hunting conditions especially if you are coin shooting.
Depth is not an issue with either the CZ or the LTD. Unless its a new CZ3D. Newer / Higher numbers than serial numbers starting with 1021 are not the same spec.
FISHER did not want their second tier products outselling the more profitable latest and greatest.
If you want to get the most out of your CZ3D or older CZ's ( Older CZ's can be converted to CZ3D spec)
Send your unit to Tom Dankowski. Tom knows CZ's.

The cz3d just slides off the mounting bracket toward the arm cuff and has slots to slide your belt through for a hip mount.
