That would be me!
Many of you have seen me on the forums before. Many have not, and so I figured I had better do a little intro.
I have lived in Anchorage, Alaska my entire life, and got an early start prospecting and metal detecting in 1972. My first detector was a White's Coinmaster 4. My early years focused on suction dredging and it was not until the 1980s when detectors improved enough to get my interest for prospecting that I really got into detecting for gold. In 1976 a school chum and I started a business selling mining and metal detecting equipment while still in high school. We became one of the largest suppliers of small scale mining and metal detecting equipment in the country. Between my personal prospecting and metal detecting and my years in the business quite a bit of obscure knowledge has lodged in my noggin.
I was on the Internet early and enjoy building websites and hanging out on forums. I developed a reputation for "telling it like it is" which on occasion gets me in hot water, but at the same time seems to have gained me an ear with various metal detector manufacturers. I am appreciative of that as I get to have a little input now and then on things.
I am rather proud of the fact that in 2010 when my partner wanted to get out of the business we were able to engineer an employee purchase, putting the company in the hands of the people that work so hard to make it all happen. I have a limited time left guiding the transition, and so am building a life independent of the old business. I have made a start with a new website at www.detectorprospector.com where I am collecting my various writing and posts over the years into one non-commercial location. It is intended as a non-competitive information source, and in fact I offer free link trades to any related websites, including any Finds sponsors who are interested. I have been busy prospecting all summer but plan on getting very busy with the website all winter. I want to publish some books and the website may become the outlet for them and I may have a used detector to sell there now and then and maybe even some gold. But for now there is no threat of me trying to sell you anything there, or here for that matter.
My company used to be a sponsor here and so the light bulb went off that instead of having a new forum on my website it would be easier to just sponsor one here, and it just so happened this forum was in need of a sponsor. The name has been changed simply to The Prospecting Forum. The topic will be any and all metal detectors used for prospecting, their use, tips, etc. Probably will get into some other related prospecting stuff if people are interested. I will also drop into forums specific to detectors I have used to chat about them especially the ones I currently am using. But this is home base.
Anyway, I am here to stir things up and answer questions about prospecting, whatever they may be. I am looking forward to it, and please do check out my website at www.detectorprospector.com as suggestions for content are welcome.
