Hi all! I'm Rick and new to the hobby. I've already become quite addicted although I'm still struggling to learn my detector. It's a Lone Star. Went out to an island on Lake Norman (near Charlotte, NC) and proceeded to find every pop-top, pull tab and melted beer can around. Lowered the sensitivity and switched to "disc" mode and found some change....I mean clad! :clapping:
I'm headed to Ocracoke, NC Monday but I understand there's no "huntin" allowed. Not to worry as I've made plans to hit the beach at Emerald Isle!
I'll be sure to post results upon my return.

hi, chaser, and welcome. i don't know much about the lonestar model, but it probably will not do well in the wet sand. in dry sand, it should do very well. you will need a dedicated beach machine for that. NC is full of good ol' hotspots, being a very old state. just about anywhere you can put your coil to the ground there would be good. i lived for a short while in NC, and can attest to that! good luck, and hh,

Hello I'm new to the forum too. I used a Fortune Hunter most of the time I have been mding. From my understanding it is the Big 5 version of the Lone Star. I normally kept my sen. set as high as I could without too much falseing, running is Disc mode with Disc set no higher than 10:00 position. If you listen for the good repeating tones they were usually good targets. If you dig more than 7 inches and still havent found the target it is usually a large target like a pop can or large iron. Too me it didnt matter, I still dug. Couldnt stand the thought of missing that large payday.LOL. After a while of digging trash you can almost call your target before you start to dig. Heck, digging is part of the fun. You will in no time get to know your detector and will understand everything it says to you. Have a great time with a wonderful hobby.

Welcome to the addiction Pack Rat and Attitude Chaser...It is a lifetime passion, great exercise, and one of the only hobbies that actually pays you back for the time you put into it (payback may very with experience and location)...All of the bounty Hunter detectors are great little machines, and highly under-rated...just obey a few rules, and you will always have a great time:

1: obey the code of ethics

2: keep your detector clean and dry

3: have the right tools for the job (including knee pads...you'll thank me later)

4: carry extra batteries

5: make sure your plug to control housing connection is tight (if it becomes loose, consider sending the machine back to First Texas)

6: learn your machine and set the knobs correctly

hey chaser..yes pay attention to the ethic codes of MDing...thats first always. second when you get your find from the ground ALWAYS double and triple check the same spot and sround it. you never know if there will be more there. 3rd Find out the places you need to get permission to hunt in and get it before you go....4th..happy hunting and make sure you post your finds we love to see them. also dont be too shy to ask even the simplest of questions, the folks here are very wise on this hobby and are more then happy to help.....good luck.

Always try to get permission. There was a trailer park that was here in the area for many decades and the Aiport Authority here sold it. For many years it remained empty. I purchased my detector earlier this year and thought about going on that site. I wrote them to detect and they turned me down. What a sad shame. Who knows what could be there waiting. I'll keep asking every year for now on until they get sick of me asking. Cover holes. I don't want to twist my ankle. HH
