Today i was out detecting when the grounds keeper came over to ask what i was finding , I showed him my bucket of zincs, nickles, pencil erasers, can slaw, nail, and foil, he was O.K with me digging i showed him how i keep the trash and digg carfully and know where all the sprinklers are ,, He proceeded to tell me where all the old ball fields were and metioned that he has worked thear for 30 years and when he got hired on one of his jobs at this school was to tear out the old lockers and when he did he was finding handfulls after hand full of silver coins , silver dallors buffalow nickles so it seems he was in the right place at the right time and most of the lost coins got lost behind the old lockers , Now i have been dating everything coming out of this field and all the coins date from early 80s to mid 90s I dont know what detectors came out in late 70sand early 80 but they cleaned house not one silver coin left and all has been accumulating since 1982 but its the rings that I am looking for to tell the truth I do not expect find andy silver coins but some gold rings VERY GOOD POSSIBLILITY

You are obviously making a very good impression - that is to be applauded. Your deeds will be rewarded - if not in this area then it will come another time.

Next time you see him it may be worth your while giving him a small card with your telephone number on - the purpose is two fold... if anything valuable is lost in the grounds in the future then he will be notified and he can contact you or least give them your number to come and save the day.... but also as a grounds keeper of 30 years he may have other contacts and suggestions on places to detect...... invariably it may lead to nothing, but who knows.... nothing ventured nothing gained...

Keep up the outstanding work :clapping:

its amazing the info a passer by can give you......its paid off for me several times.........next time you see him you may want to ask if the ground you are working has ever been back filled or soil added......sometimes the good stuff has been buried and finds you are now finding are from after the last soil replenishment....... there was an old swimming hole i was doing good at mainly due to the erosion problem they were having....that all changed the day they put a foot of stone on the bottom......he may be able to piont out areas of the field you are more likely to be successfull in just due to his many years there... good luck...

How ironic I had a run in with the groundskeeper today myself. Yes, talking with groundskeeper can open doors to other places. Although, I think mine had an ulterior motive to getting me out of the park that I was in lol. Imagine being this guy that gets to pull out lockers and keep all the silver coins! Yes, silver is thinning out but it is still there. Just have to work harder for it. I hope you find some more nice rings like that 14K ring you found. Keep at it gunnar and check those old ballfields out too. Best of luck and keep us posted on your adventures. - Jim
