I just got a used etrac in December and find myself heading to the detector shop in the morning to trade it in for the 3030... I may just be crazy but want a waterproof detector and am pretty taken with added features and capabilities... I love the etrac but imagine the ctx to be all it is and more, and from the YouTube vids I've watched it seems slightly more stable and consistent.. Is that true or is it my perception? Also what would be considered a good deal on a standard package?

Do you want to try one before you buy? I could drive over there this weekend and let you use mine. I also have an Etrac, so I could use it and let you try out my CTX. I think you should be able to pick up a new standard package for $2100-2200 if you shop around.

If its water proof that you're after the CTX is the one.

I live in an area that is beat to death. Every park was picked clean.

My first year with the E-trac=75 silvers

My first year with the ctx in those same parks i used the E-trac in=100 silvers

My skill has increased too so it's not all the machine.

I bought at CTX last year also. I kept the Etrac as a backup. Target Trace is probably one of the bigger advantages over the Etrac. If there is a rusty nail at 2 inches and a coin below it at 5 inches you can usually pick it out on the screen. You can switch from mode to mode with just one button push if you set it up that way with the User button. I always ran TTF on my Etrac. Combined on the CTX made TTF a lot better. The FE line on the Etrac is set at 17 and cannot be changed. On the CTX you can set that line wherever you want plus 4 more adjustable lines for CO numbers. Then you can set whatever tones you want in each of those 5 bins. I love the pinpoint trigger. Then comes the weight distribution. I know they each weigh around 5 pounds but the CTX is easier to swing. It is just balanced better. You will not be disappointed.

bart also sets you up with some real nice extra,s not a lot of junk very nice package deals

To get the best deal on a package, contact some of the sponsoring dealers, such as those listed in the banners at the top of this forum. They would appreciate the opportunity.....and it lets them know we appreciate their being sponsors. HH Randy

Well I pulled the trigger... Bought local, well in Boise, guess having it in my hot little hands trumped shopping around for a deal. I used it today for two hours between my boys basketball games... Think I'm really going to like it.. The recovery seems very fast and really like the pinpoint... Found lots of and dimes and a few quarters..

I never used an E-TRAC, but used the all the others and find the CTX 3030 great. In my opinion, I would consider the CTX "water resistant". I know they show people under water, etc....but I see more "o" ring failures than anything..scary stuff. I think the water protection is good should you be walking the beach, and get hit by a rogue wave or fall in my mistake, or get that last hunt it while it's starting to rain.....
