I popped this out today. Can anyone ID it or explain what it is? I believe that the propeller? doohickey may have spun at one time. Thanks.





 
It looks to be a lid off of a womens type talcum powder. Should be Sterling. The marks on the lid appear to be foreign silver hallmarks. I would start with British and go from there. Hope this helps. Mark
 
Yes those are hallmarks. What they mean, I don't know but you can do a hallmark search. It might just be sliver plated. The nails make me think it was mounted to wood, so the doorbell turner sounds very plausible..

Looks like silver to me. I see some hallmarks in the last picture.

I could not resist seeing some of his other pictures, has a good collection of rings and a small ax in a trunk that makes me crazy.
