On my way home from work, we still had some liquid water on the ground, after the air temp had dropped below freezing. The cold temperature sucked the moisture straight up into the air, where it promptly precipitated out and froze on anything it touched. It was kind of weird driving through this "fog", but when I got up the next morning, all the trees across the street from me was sheathed in a really nice frosty layer.
