Early this morning I Observed a Guy detecting a large field..... I stopped and watched him detect for awhile.
I noticed he had a 5" coil....and was swinging it about 12" above the ground.......... I wondered why?. I asked..he said he just got the detector last week, and on the forums everyone said use small coil for less junk and better finds.........
I pointed out that though he could detect that large field with the 5" coil..it would take forever and he would most likely miss a good portion while swinging the little coil Helter Skelter like he was.
I explained they meant the small coil worked better in smaller areas that had lots of junk which allowed you to see good targets between the junk items......
He put the 11" coil on, and was a little happier knowing he would be OK in the large field with the Large coil...I showed him how to overlap and keep coil low & level with the ground..
I guess we need to be more specific with our posts for all the people who buy via the Internet and really have no clue how to use the metal detectors .........
PS: While I watched he found his first Clad Quarter.............. about 4" Down in hard packed dirt ( Very dry here)....... he asked if it was always this hard to dig LOL hahahahahhahha...
