farm site has been settled since 1700's.
anyone have any thoughts?
2 different good buttons today for 4 hours work plus some colonial flats and 2 Injuns one was an 1873 and the other a no date...
buttons have only been rinsed with warm water - no other cleaning.
thanks for any assistance.

Nice buttons.

I will look them up for you when I get a chance or someone else get er done before me. I'm sure these ones will be in my book.

The 2nd one needs more cleaning ,to ID. Maybe even both.

If they are not chipping or taking the top layer off use a brass brush. Lightly at first to see how it does. I have done this with old buttons I have found and it has worked great.
Good Luck

thanks for the cleaning advice.
second button will reveal much more when I get some of the caked dirt off...

William Lee has advised - first is Navy and second is Marines - dates to 1820's...

1st look like Federal Navy, I'd say early due to lack of stars surrounding eagle. I can't make-out much of the 2nd button. Be interested in seeing cleaned-up buttons.

Nice finds!
