interesting homestead steel works piece

hello all. i recovered this interesting worker's check from a field in dinwiddie co. va. [what the heck was it doing there?!!] last year. i'd completely forgotten about it until today, going through some older finds. it's about the size of a silver dollar. any ideas on the time frame? the homestead was open from about 1881 to 1986. thanks for looking!
