Just curious about what you all think of the 4" coil. I happen to love it and use it in very difficult places that larger coils wouldnt stand a chance. Actually it stays on my 505 most of the time. Tell me what you think. Thanks and HH. Matt
The 4" coil is amazing on the 505 or any unit for that matter. Once I put it on the 505 I had a hard time wanting to put the 8" back on. I was suprised by how much easier it was to pinpoint, dig in trashier areas an how close I was able to get without it picking up the playground equipment. Not to mention how much lighter my detector was. The cons I found were less depth and it takes longer to cover an area. Overcame depth problem some by increasing the sensitivity. Not a problem on covering area if you just choose to cover a small area. I found if I go slow, I search a little bit of ground by the end of the hunt, but my finds are better. It stays on my 505 most of the time as wel unless I have a large area to cover. Every coil serves a purpose. The 4" coil is my favorite though.
What is the soil condition in your areas and what was the depth on the deepest coin-sized object you guys have found using the 4"?. I have the 4" but I haven't had a chance to really try it out.
The soil in my area is moderately mineralized. I have found the 4" to excel in tight spots and like Jake said you can get close to metallic things like playground equipment. I seem to get 4"-6" depending on the object. I dont think I had my 8" coil on at all last season. HH. Matt
The 4" coil is definitely hotter on rings. I found my 1st 14k gold ring with it last year. Soil is not to bad here, except for iron deposits as far as I can tell. I might be able to get a better idea of soil once I get my discovery3300 and try ground balancing for the first time. What I like also about the 4" coil is when it is cold outside and I tough it out anyway and go out. The 4" coil is shallower on depth than my 8" coil and I do not have to dig as far in frozen ground. Lol. Makes for a better hunt in that situation. I love what it does around large metal. I can get in really close. I also like how easy it is to pinpoint. HH
