Insignificant glitch or user stupidity.

Hunted a worn out relic spot and the AT Pro performed well. I noticed when the "IRON AUDIO" was on the screen I did not have "IRON AUDIO" when I pushed the iron audio button the "IRON AUDIO" on the screen went away and the "IRON AUDIO" was functioning. Seems reversed or did I miss something.

You are not alone, I was wondering if someone would have the same problem as me, take a look at this video :

The iron audio you will hear the iron as a grunt or low tone. Think the reason you were getting the high or accepted tone is you only have the iron disc up to 19.
Run it up to 30 and try again. Think you will hear the grunt and not the accepted tone.

Just watched it again it is working right it looks like. You have to adjust the iron disc up enough to reject the iron target or you will get a good tone that is what the iron disc does it will let you accept large iron if you want to this can come in helpful when relic hunting.

I have emailed Garrett regarding this with a link to the video so I am hoping they can advise, to be honest it is perfectly usable like this but I would just like a definitive response from them.

in video u are in pro mode at first..............iron set at 19............your target hit at 24.................like jason said it above target id.................u will be good to go.

it does seem backwards when in std. mode, but i do not belived anyone will ever use std mode once they the the hang of pro.

Ok, if you guys are saying that your machines behave in the same way then it seems likely that is the way it should work although at this point I find it counter intuitive I just have to get a better handle on exactly how this feature is setup.

For instance doing some air tests with iron on top of a good target I find I prefer it with the iron audio off as I can tell there is something worth digging underneath the iron as opposed to iron audio on that will tell me it is just iron.

IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY IN STANDARD MODE. I HAVE BEEN TURNING THE IRON DISC TO 40. TO DO SOME CHERRY PICKING. IF IT HIS A GOOD SOUND N THE FIRST SWIPE IT GIVE A LOW TONE ON THE SECOND SWIPE. I PROBABLY MISSING JEWELERY AND SOME NICKLES BUT LIKE I SAID JUST CHERRY PICKING.

I BELIEVE THIS IS ONE OF THE WAYS TO DISC. SCAN THE BAD TARGET AND RAISE THE IRON DISC TO REMOVE IT (FOR ALLOT OF TWIST OFF CAPS). I BELIEVE GARRETT BROUGHT IT UP IN THE VIDEO.

When the iron audio is reading on the screen, the low iron sound is for iron discriminated out. With iron audio not displayed on the screen a good target will be heard unless it falls below the descrim setting.

That way you can set it up the way you want and it will return to your set up when you turn detector back on the next time you use it.

Question: If you are discrimintating iron and the discrimination is set at 30 , and your target comes in at 25, do you hear any tone at all ? .....Just wondering if you get a NON TONE like a null since the iron is discriminated , or do you get a low grunt in an actual tone to let you know the iron is there ,but it's descriminated in this particular senario ? .....THanks, Jim

Hi synthnut,

As far as I can discern anything under your disc setting will null unless of course iron audio is selected in which case anything in the iron range, ie under 40, will give an iron sound.

If any one thinks different then let them speak now or forever hold their peace

Thanks Mac
I went on the KellyCo site and they had a great explanation for the way this thing operates .....I appreciate the info ....Jim

Glad you found an explanation that helps, of course mine is the condensed version
