OK,
This is a a ground shield, Faraday Cage type of affair. It's purpose is to prevent electrical interference from getting into the circuitry of the metal detector. So if a radio tower, power lines, cell phone is nearby they won't cause interference to the detector. This would manifest itself with chirping, chattering, spitting in the audio, and sometimes accompanied by the ID in the display jumping around. This occurs just by having the detector on, not swinging the coil over the ground.
Now, I am not familiar with the circuitry of the CZ, but an attachment point would be the ground plane on the circuit board of the detector. These ground plane areas can be seen as large open areas free of components, but they are covered in copper. But that does not mean they are copper colored, likely there is whats known as a solder mask applied. This will make the circuit boards appear blue, green, or red etc. If you see one of these large areas simply take an x-acto knife and scrape away about a 1/4 inch area to expose the copper. A little plastic scouring pad should also help for a finishing touch, then wipe clean. Pre-tin that little area on the board with solder and the end of your dangling wire. Now apply the soldering iron to the board and bring the wire down to the board to solder in place. You want to heat the board first with the soldering iron because the large copper area will act like a heat sink and draw the heat away from your solder tip.
