Inquiry for Infinium LS

question

New member
I am a photographer and will be moving to Sacramento, California in July;
and plan to cover all types of terrain around northern california taking photographs.

I was considering purchasing the Garrett AT Pro or Infinium to look for
gold nuggets/framents. My intent is to mount a shoulder strap to the
detector so it will be easier for me to carry around for long periods of time.
Any suggestions on types of mounts and shoulder straps.

Which detector would you recommend I use.

I also noticed an article on this forum concerning external speaker set-up for the
infinium - could you let me know exactly what to ask for at Radio shack to
adapt to the Garrett Infinium

Thank you
Ed

Never used the AT Pro but I would think the Infinium is heavier. I use a Infinium and love it. For what you described I would get the Infinium and a 8" mono coil. Cant help on the external speaker mod as I only run with headphones.

Hello all,
I have also been considering the Garrett AT Pro or Infinium. I want to use it mainly for prospecting for gold in Australia, but sometimes for the beach.
I do have a Garrett Ace 350 which I use on beaches.
I have read a lot on the net and still can't decide. Money is not a problem as both machines are in my price range. I contacted Garrett and they said that the Infinium
is the best but if they were going prospecting that they would save the money and buy the AT Pro.
I know that they are two very different machines, one is PI and the other VLF. Many say that PI is best for hot ground like in Australia but Garrett think that the AT Pro handles hot
ground just fine.
On the other hand the AT Pro has new technology which may be better. Also I wonder if Garrett might release an updated version of the Infinium sometime soon as it has been around since 2005 I think.
Any advice to help me make a decision would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks in advanced.
Glenn

Ok now I am worried, Garrett actually told you that the AT pro would be a better choice for gold detecting? I have been biding my time before buying an Infinium because of the possibility of a newer version becoming available. But I am running out of time as we leave on a mainland trip soon and I need to purchase a second detector. So I guess I am asking for similar advice to you Glenn

Hello Dave,
This is a copy of the email from Garrett.
"Hello Glenn,

The Infinium LS is the best detector for prospecting for gold. Now the AT Pro is a great detector also for prospecting. The AT Pro will pick up a piece of .7 gram piece of gold at about 3 inches. So as you can see it will detect a small piece of gold at a good depth. The Infinium will just pick up a little smaller piece of gold at the same depth or a little deeper. If money wasn

I use an Infinium on salt water beaches and it is a super unit. If the area is loaded with trash and iron, then an AT Pro would be the better option.

For gold prospecting, you have to remember that the Infinium was designed for that type of hunting. Stating that, I would say it would be a much better choice for that application than the AT Pro. Price is then the trump card....do you want to spend the money on a new Infinium or a new AT Pro which could then be used for coin hunting, fresh water hunting, etc.

Maybe Garrett's response was based on you prospecting only once or twice. If I were really into prospecting, and was going to be gold nugget hunting a lot, then I would pay the extra and get an Infinium along with the coil options. If you get into an area with tough soil conditions, I would think the Infinium would handle it a lot better than an AT Pro.

Tough one Glenn....wish I could help more !

TheRover,
Thank you. That pretty much sums-up what I was thinking. I think I will order the Infinium LS. Thanks for your help.
