Input needed - 2014 Equipment Purchase

I have an E-Trac and am pretty proficient with it. I have learned its language. (Also have a CZ-21 for water)

I want to buy some new gear in 2014 and it's a toss up between the CTX3030 and a Keene Coin & Jewelry dredge. I have a river nearby that people have been tubing down and swimming in for 80+ years. It's deepest spot is 10 or 15' but most of the river is 3' or less. I've always wanted to take a dredge down there and suck out the gravel down to bedrock to look for lost rings and coins. Every time I detect down there I find plenty of change but I think the jewelry is sinking deeper. The dredge would have two hookups so one of my boys can dive and detect while I vacuum everything up.

I don't have any experience with dredging and am wondering if it will work as advertised or if it a waste of money.

So, which one would you get? CTX3030 or dredge?

Thanks for your input.

Arnie

You have an eTrac and CZ.......go for the dredge!! Besides, I think that would be fun!! JMHO, I could be wrong.

I was curious about the exact same dredge for doing some shallow lake dredging. I think it would be great EXCEPT I'd just about bet that goverment regs and bs would most likely be more bs than it's worth....????? I haven't looked into it yet......

Anybody dealt with this before....?????

Yes....I agree. You have a great proven machine and a excellent water machine. The ctx is proving to be excellent as well but why be redundant?

Find some big gold with the dredge!

Don't be fooled, dredging is very labor intensive. Fun... But hard work.

I would definitely keep the E-trac and get the dredge.

I could see the tree huggers around me having kittens if I started dredging the creek bottom..

I've used a dredge here in California gold streams. It's hard work indeed, but can be very rewarding. You might want to look at Beau Oulmette's latest video to see more in action in combination with a metal detector.

Not much natural gold in these parts, the llano river is the closest water that has color. I'll be looking for coins and lost jewelry.

I guess the worst thing that might happen is it turns out to be an expensive vacuum cleaner to get down to the good stuff. Plenty of swimming holes to use it in around here though

The Texas Parks and Wildlife might require a permit to use the dredge. Seems there is some case law regarding the materials in the river beds. Disturbed sediment also may cause some issues with the native trout population in the Guadalupe and TPW may not allow that at all. If you ask them I would bet they will say NO. Not because of actual factual knowledge of what is going on but because they have no freaking idea of what the consequences will be.
