Inner City Detecting

Has anyone done any MDing in inner cities?? I live near a historic city, but the oldest section, which has some large dirt & grass areas happens to be in the works part of the city. I am very tempted to risk it.

I've done it, I didn't know better. Didn't realize the area I was in was as bad as it was, but I hit some street parks for several months with no problems. Early morning was when I started out though, and I was done by mid afternoon. No one bothered me. I get more harassment and pest-people in the suburbs!

I know one guy who bought an ATF cap and jacket and wore those when he was in a bad part of town, and he felt better having it. I don't know if he could get in trouble for wearing the stuff or not though.

Wear your headphones slightly off of one ear, so you can hear what's going on around you.

Pay attention, stay alert. Be quick with your target recoveries. In some areas, if you can't retrieve the target quickly, I'd just leave it.

Carry a cell phone just in case you need it.

Lastly, the best advice of all... always hunt with a buddy or two or three. There's power in numbers.

Hey Camman, I know what you mean! I hunt some inner city parks in some very bad neighborhoods, but the key is to pick the right time to do so. I use usually hunt in the late mornings, while kids are in school, and also I hunt with a partner. Use a lot of common sense, and stay away from areas heavily occupied with people that look like a potential problem. I don't usually hunt on weekends, but i have, and on the few occassions, I stayed in an unoccupied area of the park, and I was o.K. Hope this helps.
