Inline Probe

So I have read so much about the X1 probe I seriously considered buying one only to find they have been discontinued. In fact, I didn't see any other options for the E-Trac on the Sun Ray site. Is there an alternative inline probe for the E-Trac? I prefer not to get a used X1 unless there is no other choice.

Thanks

Mike

Sunray are the only makers of an Inline Probe. There are no alternatives since its the only one of its kind. I suggest buying a Used X1 from a reputable person on here or other forums. There are a couple on eBay right now as well. I just picked mine up last week and absolutely love it. I still use my Pro-Pointer in conjunction to it because its a natural thing to do for me. Where the X1 will greatly beat any Pin Pointer is when you dig a hole with multiple targets that include iron and you can null those out to go after what you really want. If you only had the PP then chances are you will dig them all since there is no discrimination. I hope this helped bud.

The reason they were discontinued I believe is because of the Mid Shaft Price increase from Minelab which wouldnt leave any margin for the sale of them. From what I heard Sunray makes a very small margin in profits for the sale of the In-Line Probes.

Thanks Adam, I appreciate the response. I did check EBay and saw a few out there, not sure about price though. How much should I expect to pay for a used one?

Not a problem at all Mike. Glad I can help.

I will tell you right now to not expect to pay any less than retail which was about $225 shipped on it. I paid $225 for my slightly used one and didnt have a problem. I also notice the earlier white shaft versions sell for a little less than the newer black ones but not below retail. Last black 6" or 9" sold for $300 or a little more. There is actually a very nice looking black 6" on eBay right now for $200 buy now with $10 shipping which is a steal. Only problem they say is the switch is slightly bent but other than that no issues. I say its a great deal as you wont find one going under $210 anytime soon. Price goes up since they stopped making them back in May/June and people jumped on all the new ones. Its well worth it. If you can find a person on here to sell you a slightly used one for Retail then its a killer deal. There arent any differences that I know of besides size when it comes to 6 or 9".

1st Gens = White 9" w/ White Shaft
2nd Gens = Black 9" w/ Black Shaft
3rd Gens = Black 6" w/ Black Shaft

BTW, You dont happen to ride DH and live in Idaho would ya?

Thanks again, great information to have! I do have my eye on the one with the bent switch.

No, I live in the St. Louis burbs.

Right on. Had to ask cause it was the same name as an old riding buddy.

The one with the bent switch sold yesterday right after I posted about it on here. There are a few others though. Nothing with a Buy Now or anything so youll have to hope on auction or someone posting here until another with a close to retail price pops up.

$225?!? I paid $100 for my DX-1 that went on my DFX and $115 for my X-1 on the Etrac. Both are the newer 6" version and other than scuffs on the red tip protector they look brand new. I may have lucked out with my X-1 though. I got mine about a week after they announced they'd stop making the X-1 so the price of used may have gone up. Just look on here and on some of the other forums. I got both of mine from another forum that I am on. I've considered picking up a ProPointer too just so I don't have to flip the Sunray on for every target. Check out my videos on YouTube of the X-1 in action - Ohio Digger

Yes unfortunately the prices have gone way up on em. Used Black versions go for $275-300+ on eBay now because they are so hard to get a hold of. I was lucky in finding mine for retail. Most people who are willing to sell them are asking offers and chances are they wont tke any lower than at least retail on used ones. A lot of people didnt find out about them or know about then til after they were already discontinued so the demand for them is there as more user have E-Tracs now and want one because of how awesome they are.

I love having my PP as well on me because like you said, I dont always need to switch over to the Probe especially if I am hunting a real clean area.
