Injun, Barber, Token, & Relics...

Had a chance to get out for a few hours with the SE again today. I've been slowly removing all the targets from an area of the park that I've been working for a few months now. First older relic was what appears to be a rivet from a pair of pants. Note the gilting on the design. Anyone recognize this design? Under a loupe it appears to be at least 50 - 75 years old - but I'm not sure. Later I was surprised by this 1905 Barber dime that was quite close to a Lincoln cent. It was shallow and I thought it was another Lincoln cent and so I was not very careful digging - it's a minor miracle that it didn't get knicked. Also found this watch part, which is marked in a couple of spots, but I'm not sure how old it is. Dug another one of those Family Amusement Center tokens. Finally, a 1906 IH that I dug there a few days ago when I had a couple hours there.

The reasons that I'm clearing all of the targets is from this area of the park are: 1) to learn more sounds and hopefully dig more interesting items - I've already been surprised several times by signals I thought were junk. 2) so I can go back in there with my new 18" Excellerator coil and try and get some super deepies. Well see what happens...

Nice looking Barber Dime you have there. Glad you got lucky and didn't hit it anywhere and congrat's on the Indian as well. So, how are you liking your SE so far? Good Luck and HH.

Hi James,

I like it so far - it's a fine detector. I am having a little trouble getting used to the new pinpoint. I never had a problem with the old one and I found it much more pleasant to listen to.

Not sure yet, but it does seem to be a little hotter than the XS on smaller items. I dug up a small piece of insulated copper wire that was bent into an "L" shape and was surprised to see that it found that.

The faster response is nice and seems to provide a little better target separation. But I'm still learning with it. Thanks for asking.

Very nice finds again Erik, am looking forward to when you clean it out and try the 18" on it. Good hunting and Congratulations again

for the kind words. I'm certainly learning the new SE by digging all targets and finding a few interesting things along the way. I too am looking forward to running that 18" over that "cleaned out" area. Regards, Erik

Enjoyed your post Erik.
The SE is doing its job, in your capable hands.

Can you help me?
In another forum post, the subject of steel clad coins was mentioned.
Can you tell me what the VDI's , (in-air), of such coinage, as 'seen' by the SE? (FeC).

(Please will you identify the coins specifically, Date, proper description etc. for this 'Limey')

Thanks in anticipation of any help available......MattR.UK.

Hi Matt,

Sure I'd be happy to help out. Just let me know what coins you want me to run by the SE. I'm not really sure what a steel clad coin is, so please fill me in. I have some British coins around the house since my wife is British and from the Bath area originally. So just let me know and I'll get you the numbers. Regards, Erik
