Initial impression of CTX

Took my new CTX out twice last weekend ,for the first time at a real old but most heavily detected park in Metro NY.I've used an Explorer II for the last 6 year .I went to an area that that my Explorer and other hunters with Etracs had no success, but a couple of guys with CTXs were pulling out a lot IH's and Seateds.I was able to find 10 IH's over two hunts and 3 silvers including a SLQ.The IH's were 8-9" and cleanly hit.I was disappointed in the tone range of the machine however.I had it in Fe-coin with a pretty wide open pattern so I can learn the sounds of the various targets.I was surprised at all the silvers when they came up.Pennies, clad dimes and quarters all sounded pretty much the same.On an Explorer, the high flute of deep silver will stop you dead in your tracks and you know what you have before you dig.I'm curious why Minelab did use the much beloved tonal sounds and variations found on the Explorer and Etrac on the CTX.I think it would make great machine even better.

You said it was in FE Coin. what tone selection were you using in the Tone ID Profile? Were you using 50 Conductive, Combined, or one of the other selections? 50 Conductive would give the most separation of tones for the various targets. Once the 50 Conductive is selected, you can adjust the high and low end of the pitch to get "close" to the E-Trac tones, but not exact.

The tone pitch an be adjusted in the CTX or in XChange2. For myself, I find it easier to do it in XChange2, but that's just my personal preference. When I first got my CTX I set my CTX tp 50 tone and as close to the E-Trac tones as I could. I could get it close, as I had both machines side by side to compare. I never used the 50 Tones much however, and use Combined Tone with the 4 bins set to the specific pitch I want for each bin.........Good luck with however you go with the tones......

As the others have said , you can adjust the tones to your liking but ferrous coin and 50 conductive is a bad combination.. I would not recommend not using ferrous coin or ground coin with 50 conductive tones or you will get a lot of iron falsing... Low trash & high trash work well with 50 conductive but ferrous coin and ground coin work much better in combined ... wildherre

Ok ive had the Ctx for over a year I never post but its found me over a hundred and fifty silvers this year.I was using a e trac the year before.Ok yes the Ctx does id odd sometimes 12_41 Morgan dollar but unless you dig 12_32 and up you will miss tones amazing targets.iron and ground conditions affect vdi.You said you were all.the finds at that site were coming from ctxs there is a reason why.o btw I dug lots of silver with my e trac that rang in like a 1cent.Just saying you never know tell you dig.Time and time again has told me that.hope this helps
