Initial C$ experience is a positive one

I don't like the Coinstrike.

I LOVE the Coinstrike!
I got out for about 3 hours Saturday prior to the Penn State game. I actually missed the first quarter (of the game). I went to a wide open group of soccer fields, so the trash would be RELATIVELY low and set the machine up with pretty conservative settings (Sens=4, Thresh= -40, discrim out everything, iron=99). The bottom line is that I found about a dozen quarters a few dimes and maybe 3 pennies, but best of all, I dug exactly 4 "trash

Thats an excellent first outing Tagamet and it only gets better! Were the tones and display stable at the soccer fields with those settings?

You did just as we all reccommended.....a ball field is perfect to get a feel for it, see how coins lock, see some negative numbers for iron, & also see that gloves & the C$ don't mix well ;)
Sounds to me like you need the famous pinpoint button mod.....just one of those stick on rubber pads they sell at hardware stores for cabinet doors. That will raise the pad up to be more "glove friendly" :D
Did you see John's C$ homepage yet? I believe it mentions or even shows that "mod" on there.....or wait, here's a picture of John's "RelicStrike". He has a black bumper on the PP pad. I get the clear ones at the dollar store.....same thing. HH< Bill

In my opinion that is important. So many first time users get discouraged and quit early on. I guess all the coachin from everyone paid off. Keep it up.....i am courious about how your hunt went this evening. Hopefully as well as your first, or even better.

I'm nothing if I ain't coachable (lol). They've been letting the grass grow at the soccer complex, so swinging the big coil was like swinging it through pudding. My shoulder aches, but it's a happy ache. The C$ is significantly heavier than the Tejon Tesoro, but it makes up for the extra weight by saving the squat thrusts to dig trash. After work today I pulled another 8 or 10 quarters, 4 dimes, a nickel, and 8 or 10 pennies. Dug two square tabs and one of those I dug "just to be sure" since I felt like it was a "tabbish" sound. Someone asked about "clear tones" and to my (very old) ears the high tone sounds like you're hitting two adjacent piano keys at once. Since I have everything discrimed out, I guess I'm not hearing the low or even mid-tones for a reason.
I know I'm leaving a lot of deeper coins behind, but for now, that's just fine. The soccer complex is less than 10 years old, so maybe there really aren't too many DEEP coins As I get more confident, I'lll start fiddling with the settings and see what happens. Since I'm finding SOME dimes (small coins), and soooo little trash, I can't be anything but happy! I realized today, that *yesterday* I dug two individual nails and failed to re-scan the hole. I ALWAYS rescan holes from which I dig a coin, but it's going to take some habit changing to rescan nails. I'm used to: Dig nail. Utter epithet. Fill hole. Move on.
I've gotten to occassionally monitoring the readout instead of just listening for the tone (and enjoying the Fall evenings). I've only hit one dime by digging a +25 (but no tone) and then pinpointing. All the others (just a half dozen trials) have been foil or other junk. I see that if I pinpoint a high tone, and the pinpoint goes into the 90's it's more than likely a partial can or something else that overwhelmed the tone. 99's I'm already comfortable not digging at the soccer fields.
So all in all, I got great advice from all of you and I used it. Although I know this machine is going to be like the games that "take a short time to learn, a lifetime to master" it's been great so far!
Does Treasure Hunting magazine have a centerfold? I'll eventually be the guy with the "big shoulders" (and the rings around his ears from the headphones).
Thanks again, and I'll keep you all posted. Oh, and thanks for the PP button mod. I'll do that tomorrow (if I can put the C$ down long enough)

Like the photo I posted from John's C$ page......not only do you see his padded pinpoint button, but you'll also notice his C$ is harnessed on his chest. If your going to make use of the bigger coil, you may want to look into getting a chest harness. Then your just swinging the rod & coil. I always harness mine when using the 10.5" coil......to me it's the coil that's heavy. The same harness works for my CZ-70 when I use that with the Sunray 12.5". Or you can hipmount the box on a belt. I let mine hang way down as I feel high on the chest makes it tricky to reach up & pinpoint....
Here's my set-up for field hunting........(sorry to everyone who's seen this pic a 100 times) ;)

That looks like just the ticket. Big Red had mentioned the harness, but I didn't like the idea of trying to press the pinpoint button high on my chest. Do you have a good site from which to purchase one of these? I've been very pleased with Brian at Southern-Treasures. It'd also be great if I was wading freshwater lakes.
Thanks,
Tagamet
PS Don't stop giving suggestions!

Are they the correct size when you buy them, or do they need to be cut to size. I'm only asking so I know what I'm looking for.
Thanks,

I first thought he was a Bank Robber.....out looking for that big load of cash from his last job......Sorry Bill i couldnt resist.

I always try to support the dealers who sponsor this forum. If it wasn't for them we wouldn't be here.......they pay to keep us open so to speak. Any Fisher dealer should have one....

Home Dumpo has 'em.....any hardware store...they are the smallest ones (usually clear) & they are made to keep like wood kitchen cabinets from slamming. Don't make the same mistake I did at first & get the bigger size ones that go under table legs :stars:

 Sorry Bill,... that was too good to pass up!! (although if you look on the Fisher website, Tony NC is also a possible candidate!) Centerfold...posterboy... sorta the same thing?

Someone had also asked about the readings I was getting at the soccer fields. As might be expected, a lot of the time the C$ just read "00". So much so that I threw a coin on the ground to make sure it was working (lol). Depending on the area I was searching, there WERE plenty of negative numbers flashing up there, but there wasn't much decision making necessary to get down and dig. Obviously, that was the point of going there in the first place (good advice!). Last night when the grass was just too deep to swing the coil, I went to a site I knew was very trashy. Again, as expected, the numbers were all OVER the place, but when I did get a tone there was a coin there. Darkness forced me back to the Jeep in less than an hour at that spot. Two quarters, 2 pennies, and a palm sized piece of cast iron that had some pretty engraving on it. The site used to be a row of homes that were razed for a flood protection project, so I'd imagine that there is an incredible mix of iron objects there. I picked it only because they have a "festival" there every Labor Day, (with food booths, etc) and it was on my route home.
I'll keep you posted.
