Information.

Thanks for the information Guvner from Minelab. Keeping your coil and coil cover clean is something we all should be aware of. A clean machine will work much better than a dirty one........:)

I have had several Minelabs come in the shop with the complaint that it is very erratic and find that 90% is dirt or water in the coil cover and 10% the connector going to the control box is loose. I had even one come in that was in digital and said it wouldn't pick up any metal only to find out he had blacked out the whole screen when I went to smartfind.
Now when i see a Explorer first thing is pull off the coil cover and see how much dirt is in it.

I hope you will be happy still when the time comes when you are detecting and all of a sudden you realize that there is more drag from your coil than usual and then you take a closer look at it and find out that you wore a hole thru the plastic. I for one along with my hunting partner Dale have already gone thru one coil cover because we wore a hole thru the back portion of the cover due to the amount of detecting we do. It is a lot cheaper to just pop a coil cover off once in a while to clean it than eventually having to buy a new coil for your machine. But then again, who says that you aren't made of money and it would be considered CHUMP CHANGE in the eye's of more higher classed people. It is your decision but for me, the coil cover stays!:detecting::thumbup:

But so far no signs of wear. If I ever start scraping gravel I'll put them back on. Just find that I don't get to cleaning the covers out as often as I should, especially when I'm swinging through construction dirt.
