I have had my MXT for over a year now, how often do you change the oil? And is it neccessary to change the filter every time?

Your actual oil consumption will vary, but the MXT manual states every 40 hours or so the "OIL" will get sluggish and begin to drain out.
The "FILTER" on the other hand should never need replacing unless damaged. However, on occasion you may want to check those two silver colored contact points on the "FILTER" to make certain that they are not indented TOO much and no longer have a flat contact point. They should always be flat, unless you drop the "FILTER" inside the MXT to often, and not SLIDE it in as recommended.
Generally speaking, your MXT should not need a specialized mechanic to overhaul her on an annual basis if you take reasonably good care of her.
