Information on Headphones/Coils

I am looking to purchase some new head phones for my MXT and was looking for some advice as far was what brand would be a good choice as all I have used so far are the factory ones that came with the unit. . I am also looking to possibly add another search coil to my collection and was looking for some feed back so to some possible choices. I currently have the 12" that came with the MXT 300 and I also have a Eclipse Shooter DD (4x6). I am looking to pick up something a little bigger to cover a bit more ground without having to many problems in the trashy areas, something along the lines of maybe a 10x6DD or an EXcelerator of some sort?? On a side note, who are the most knowledgeable individuals at Kellyco to deal with regarding White Detectors to speak with, I spoke with an individual today that really couldn't answer my questions?

I'm really partial to the SunRay Golds, just one of several good detecting headphones available.

[size=large]Let's start with headphones. I favor the Killer B 'Wasp' as well as the nearly identical SunRay Pro Gold, made for them by Killer B. I have used a lot of headphones over the years, but these two are the ones I use or carry as back-ups in case something happens.

Now, for the search coil topic. If you're comfortable with the little 'Shooter' coil then that can handle your trashier sites. The 12" concentric, if it works for you in your ground, can provide a lot of coverage and depth on larger-than-coin targets. For in-between coils, let me suggest two sources: White's and Kellyco.

I have the 6" Double-D Excelerator (from Kellyco) mounted right now on my M6 as I was out working a trashy site earlier. After a late lunch break I'll be back out there but using a larger coil as I have a site I want a little more coverage and depth at. Another favorite of mine, even over the 'shooter' coil for general use and average trashy sites, is White's 5.3 Eclipse coil. It usually gives me depth about on par with their 6X10 DD, but suffers from less masking and fits in and around trashy sites and 'stuff' better.

For a coil down in size from the 12" that can give you coverage as well as decent depth, and work OK in not too trashy a site, I'll suggest the White's 10" DD coil, as well as the 10X12 S.E.F. coil, also available from Kellyco. My 10X12 S.E.F. is currently 'on loan' so I'll be using my 10" DD coil, which is lightweight and hits well on what we consider 'deeper coins' in this part of the country.
