Information for a 555D VLF

Does anyone have experience or knowledge on a 555D I purchased used? It is missing the owners manual, and the battery trays. I am wondering how many batteries and what type go in the detector? I purchased this as a classic vintage detector. I would like to get it running. Thank You.

This detector took two battery holders that held 6 AA batteries each. At the top they had a 9V battery style connector.

I just bought one off e-bay. No manual. I see on fishers site that they do not offer a download manual for it. I may call them tomorrow and see if i can find some place that has an instruction manual for it. It will be interesting to see if I bought a piece of junk for $35 or if it will actually work. I will keep my fingers crossed as the add said sold as is. Might end up being a $35 door stop. Oh well, live and learn. If any one out there has any knowledge of this machine or where abouts of an instruction manual, please reply. I would love to get this old dog running. Thanks

It's an excellent but heavy detector if you get it working. You will be pleasantly surprised at it's performance. You can also use 2-- 9 volt batteries, they just will not last as long.

it loves silver coins and finding coins on edge

The 552 D is on the way. I did call Fisher and the manual is on the way. $4.00 for the manual from Fisher. I talked to a tech at Fisher and they said that they do not have parts to repair the old detectors, so I guess if it does not work it goes in the trash. I should have the detector in a few days. I will let you guys know if it works or not. Maybe someone knows a tech that could repair it if it does not work?

As I recall it used 6 AA batteries on each side. Ran around 4 kHz so it had great depth,VLF/TR, ['no motion] especially using reverse discrimination. The ground control has both a coarse and fine adjustment. Built Fisher tough-the top of the line before the 1260 hit the market. Put the big loop on it, might surprise you.

Got the 552D yesterday. Junk. Battery holders are shot, so I put 2 nine volt batterries in it for a test and it has serious problems and certainly not going to put more money in a dying horse. Serves me right for buying something off e-bay. It goes out in the trash today. Lucky garbage man. I am sure the out fit knew it was junk but led me to believe it only needed batteries. Too bad there are such jerks on e-bay. I will go back to my old standard. If I can't afford to buy new then I don't buy.
