INFO... soverign GT w/ meter... vs..... Explorer SE PRO

EARTHLINGX

New member
i have never been a fan of the digital screen on tectors era... i am not sure that i trust them because i can be hard on tectors.... I was about to buy a explorer SE PRO and i have heard mixed things about it... also on a lot of other tectors.... I had it narrowed down to this one BUT...... I have been told that the SE PRO is a slow swing tector... you can miss a lot and that the recovery time for the processor is slow if you swing to fast.... my swing speed and distance with the a tector is about 6ft of swing / 1 sec. for the swing each way.... i was told to look into the soverign GT w/ meter and i have some questions..

1. how is the recovery speed for you?

2. have you used it on the beach and how was it?

3. have you used it for any type of prospecting and how was it?

4. how was the depth on different type hunts?

5. seems easy to set up, is it?

6. do you have original coil, sunray coil, excellerator coil or what ???? what is your favorite and for what type of hunting

ANY other info you have would be great also

G'Day Earthling, I had a Sovereign Elite before trading to my Explorer SE. Many times I have thought of going back to the Sov. It goes just as deep in my opinion, and is far easier to learn, and is HALF THE BLOODY WEIGHT, and cheaper. If I had known that you could buy an inline probe for the Sov, I would not have bought the Explorer, The Sovereign has a faster swing speed than the Explorer, and with the control box mounted on your belt there is a lot less weight to stop at the end of each swing, this reduces the problem of tennis elbow if you are out 3-4 days a week at 6-8 hrs a day. The Explorer is pretty useless for gold, too many frequencies sapping the power to find small gold, the Sovereign is much better at that. With a 15" coil for the beach you can do 1 second sweeps or less, but the Explorer is 2 seconds plus. I have a friend who I detect with who has a Sov.and he swings pretty fast, and I don't get anything if I follow him, and he constantly pulls up coins from 12" to 15" at that speed. I don't do any better and I am half that speed. I have always used the 15" WOT Coil, Never comes off, Had one on the Sov. Now have one on the Explorer with an X-1 Probe, Bloody Marvelous Gadget, can't beat it when doing Footy Fields, but don't need it on the beach. Buy the Sovereign, you won't regret it, Bob

Thanks Bob.
I have been looking at these 2 detectors myself. Although I own the XS Explorer, I've been thinking about off loading it and my other top end unit for just one unit that will serve best. The SE Pro and the GT Sovereign seem to be the best on the market for overall performance. You brought up some good key points. I handled an older sovereign briefly yesterday and was impressed with it's lightness (not to mention that you can hip mount it). Well balanced too.
Mick Evans.

I have both. The GT was my first detector. I have tried quite a few machines but I will not sell me GT. My newest detector is an Explorer with a Pro coil, ( I also have a slimline 10, a coinsearch 8, and an excellerator 6). The sovereign is much easier to use and learn. They are both heavier than a machine like the F75 but the GT is better balanced than the Explorer.
I would not have to think twice if I had to choose between the GT and the Explorer... I would keep the Sovereign.

Plus, if you swing 6' per second you need to forget the Explorer. It may signal but it will be a foot past the target before you hear the tone. In trashy ground you really have to go at a snail's pace with the Explorer. The fastest machine I have ever used is the F75. It's recovery time is faster than your brain.

If I had to choose two detectors they would be the GT and the F75, if I could have three i'd probebly keep my Tejon, four, either the SE or a T2 for backup. I have not given up on my Explorer but I have not learned it either. I have put in a lot of hours on it but I cannot get the knack of it. It is not a fun machine to use, IMO.

A lot of people say that.... i finally got to use a explorer se pro and a SHADOW X5 was faster and lighter and more fun with finding but i was told that i wasnt swinging it right and i asked him to show me so we picked a large playground and he went over it first and i went over a different area near it then we traded areas and i still found 9 things that he missed in his area and he found none in mine

is the soverign GT an upgrade from the elite???? i havent used an elite before

The GT is the new model Sovereign, the Elite was the one that was made before the GT, but after the XS2a. The GT is quite a bit better then the Elite in my opinion, On the older Soveriegns I like the XS and the XS2 and see on E Bay there is a XS2 for $325 buy it now that sounds like a good deal and if new to the Sovereign it would be the one I would use as if you dont like or cant understand the Sovereign you could resell and get most if not all your money back.
