info on washer placement to keep coil from flopping around

what with changing coils here and there along the way, i guess i misplaced or lost the washers that allow you to snug it up. Right now without washers, as much as i can tighten the round knobs, the coil flops around. So some type of rubber or plastic washer right, and put it on the inside or the outside of the two flanges on the coil through which you pass the plastic bolt? thanks all. CO .

None shipped with the detector from factory... That said I use a rubber washer that fits inside diameter indent on rod. One works just fine.

Yeah, what Elton said...I go down to the local hardware and get some Orings or somesuch...

as a temporary fix, i wrapped 3 o 4 times around some masking tape about the end of the shaft, punched hole through with pencil and replaced bolt, seemed to hold out in the field, but again pretty sure it will only prove a temporary fix. I know whatever you put in there has to be pretty thin. Thanks for your input, Good Hunts, CO

For the coils that fit with the F75 / F70:

The 11 inch DD and the 10 inch elliptical do not use washers. I have not had any trouble with either coil flopping around without washers. If you use a washer on one of these coils there is a risk of breaking the mounting ears.

I haven't seen posts about broken mounting ears in a while, but two to three years ago there were a few post about the ears breaking when using washers.

5 inch DD uses one washer, 6.5 elliptical uses two washers.

Here is one post with the ear broken off:

Fisher should probably deal with the issue, several of the posters above, whom I hold in high regard as for their experiences and finds afield, have experienced the same issue. As the link provided by tvr would suggest , the natural inclination would be to tighten it even harder and unfortunately the poster damaged the coil flange. If my tape doesnt hold up may try a washer i would make out of say like a plastic folder cover. (something really thin). Good hunts all, CO

Curt I had that problem with the F5 ear broke off. Fisher made good for it.. The 6.5" coil on my F70 came with it's own rod and hardware. I thought it was only one washer? I haven't taken the coil off in some time so I will have to look.

I got mine used and it came with two and seems to fit well with little to no flex of the ears. The washers look the same as the one that came originally with the F75-LTD for the 5 inch.

If you get a chance to check yours, please let us know, as the 6.5 inch may really be correct with one.

In any case, minimizing side flex and stress on the ears is the goal!

tvr
