hi folks , im trying to find out what type and who might have worn this button . also what year it is from ..my sister in ocean city md . found it in her yard . i know it is a delaware button , but that is all i know . the picture i have added is like the one she found . thanks for the help . happy huntin ..

Does your button have a backmark on it? Also, there are two variations of that button. One is like the picture with the soldiers arm adjacent to the shield. In the other version the elbow is behind the shield. That would be the soldier on the right looking at the button.
The backmark will help in dating it. It could be Horstmann, Philadelphia 1893-1935;or Horstmann Bros. & Co./Phil 1859-1863 for the first version.
The second version could have Waterbury Button Co. 1849- present; or Goodwins Pat. July 27, 1875

i will have to get more information from my sister about the backside of the button , thank you for the information that you have given me . this is part of what makes this site great. hours of enjoyment to me. ill post what ever information i can get from my sister . thanks again...

thanks for the information , i put the wrong button in my article . i called my sister in ocean city and she said it had the words (superior quality ) on the back . and has the right picture on this posting . sorry for the mixup , again thanks for the help . happy hunting ..

According to Albert's book that is a Deleware State Seal button. Here is the complete text of the button description:

DL 7B. The cow faces left. "Superior Quality". RV 1

note; Reference should be made to the American Rifles, a military company instituted at Wilmington in 1875. This company represented Deleware in the Centennial Legion in the great military parade held at Philadelphia July 4, 1876. No record is known that a button other than the staff state seal button was worn.( For details, see National BUTTON BULLETIN October 1945 also January andJuly 1946)

I don't understand what all that means. But, I think it means the button was worn in that parade only. I could be wrong because the RV(relative value) is 1 and that is the lowest value they give.

I sent you a personal message.

thank you very much for the information you have sent . im sure she will be glad to have found out this much about it .ill have to take the metal detector with me the next time i go to see her . thanks again ,
