Info on the Tejon

I am hoping that someone can fill me in on the Tejon. I have always used another brand of detector , but this one has peeked my interest. I have read the usual stuff on it. Stuff like the field report & even stuff from this forum. But what I want to know is the history. For instance, I see in my British Treasure hunting Magazine add that it says " with pro upgrade". Was there a non pro version ? On Ebay one for sale say " earlier serial number " " more desired " . Is this true ? and if it is . Why ? Any help would be appreciated. I may soon be a member of the family.

The pro upgrade includes a fixed ground balance and a lower discrimination setting for use in Europe because they look for very thin roman and Celtic coins. It is not offered in the US, as far as I know, and wouldn't be of much use here anyway. I don't know about the early serial number but I would suggest buying a new one if its in your budget because it comes with a life time warranty. You may save a couple of hundred bucks on the front end with a used one but without a warranty is it worth it in the long run?

Best Regards,

I have had British version and have standard grey earlier number Tejon and also French version PRO. I recommend to buy brand new standard grey Tejon and good set of headphones like Killer B or Sun Ray Pro Gold.

good point about the warranty.

What is the warranty "program" like over there? Actually, Tesoro is the ONLY brand detector that I would buy used because of how they stand by their detectors. I sent a second hand Eldorado in for a tune up/check up, paid for nothing but the shipping to Tesoro.

That's why its safe to pick up a used Tejon. If you need a tune up or some maintenance, Tesoro may just do it for free ( less shipping ) or for a small cost. If you don't have the money to buy a new one, you can still get a great used one for a better price and not have to worry.

In this day and age, that's pretty amazing. Its a testament to the company, their customer service and how they like to have detectorists using their machines.

Plus, their machines are top notch. I bought a used Tejon from this forum, and the machine works perfectly and I have no fear that if it ever needed maintenance, it's not going to cost me an arm and a leg. In addition, its one of the BEST units I ever used.

but it is totally untrue. All of the Tejons have been built to the same standards since day one and all tuned and tested the same way. The current machines are just as deep as the first ones off the assembly line. The Tejon has proven track record as deep machine.

I'll just add these comments and hope I'm not repeating what the others wrote (don't have time to read all the posts).

I've owned many Minelab models up to the SE and the latest "mega deep super fast" Fisher F series detectors (F70/75).

I came back to Tesoro because I find them to better machines. By better I mean they consistently produce more and better finds than the others I mentioned above. And this is true not just of the Tejon but of all Tesoros.

But of all the Tesoros the Tejon is my favorite for several reasons.

1. It's as deep or deeper than all the other top machines.
2. It pinpoints perfectly so no extra pinpointer is needed (all Tesoros do).
3. It has manual ground balance for precision control (I don't trust the automatics)
4. It has a dual discrimination feature that's supreme once understood.
5. The trigger 3-function control is awesome (discrimination 1, 2, and all-metal)
6. The signal tone pitch adjustment is also a big plus (I use the 3:00 position).
7. It doesn't have a meter or individual target tones. This forces me to dig all questionable targets and thereby find some of my best finds.
8. It has knobs and was designed for easy repairs when needed.
9. Tesoro is a genuine made in the U.S.A. company (I know of only 3 companies who really are).
10 Tesoro never updates a model unless they have a genuine improvement to make to it (no repackaging old models to make money off suckers)
11. Tesoro won't come out with a new model unless their testing indicates that some new design is in fact better. Everybody today is wondering why Tesoro doesn't do this or that. When this or that is really better they'll do it.

I could list more but you-all get the idea.

Michigan Badger.

pin points DEAD ON on the center red spot EVERY time. It may be a relic machine with the bigger coils, but with that small 5.3 concentric, its a park and tot lot killer and balanced perfectly.

I picked up one off of ebay great shape with an additional coil, (5.75 with lower shaft) for $455 with both coil covers and headphones.
