Info on Platypus coil...

Joe G

I'm thinking of getting a Platypus for my Exp II... I have no complaints with the stock 10.5" and sure get some incredible depth at the beach. However, I do dig dirt every now and then (in trashy parks) and I'm looking for something that might be able to help with better target separation without compromising depth. It's either that or go for an 8" or 5". Suggestions? The Joey looked interesting, but I've heard tell of a lot of falsing on wet grass. Was curious if anyone had any experience with the Platypus in the wet sand / shallow surf or diggin' dirt... Did a search of the forums but didn't get a heck of a lot of info.

Thanks!

Hi Joe G,
I use 2 coils on the beach, both Coiltek, the 15 inch WOT and a Platypus.
The Platypus is used if the beach where I live gets washed away exposing the rocks beneath the sand.
The Platypus is good for going between the rocks and I can keep it closer to ground level than the WOT.
I have found many old coins and several gold rings plus other interesting items with the Platypus, when the beach washes away the finds go back as far as the 1940's.
The depth is good and it doesn't false as much as the WOT, slower to cover a given area because of the coil size.
The Quattro, WOT and Platypus all seem to work well together but then I may be biased as I live in Adelaide South Australia the home of Minelab and Coiltek, wish they would have a factory "scratch & dent" sale.

I've read the reviews, but I think it's even better to get info from those who've used it in different conditions.

Appreciate your input!
