Info on hip mounting Garrett Infinium LS

Ok I've heard some bad things about trying to hip mount the Infinium LS, but dang this thing is wearing my arm out ;)

Heard that it can short your coil wire. True, false? Discuss!

Just set it up so that the coil cable does not pull or flex much at the control box end as you swing the coil. Loop the cable through your belt or whatever just use a bit of common sense and improvisation.

Cool thanks!

I've made me up a chest mount for the Infinium using the waist belt pouch and a adjustable strap that came with my briefcase. I'm leaving about a foot and a half loose lead to the shaft, that should not put any strain on the coil connector.

Gonna test it out at the beach tomorrow.

My very first setup like 15 years ago, it was assembled with simple plastic buckles for the purpose of being adjustable before it was to be permanently sewn.
It have worked so well it never got changed or sewn......................( No...the wooden stick is not a part of it)
Velcro strip is for holding the headphone cord.

Note the Infinium control housing is inserted back to front in the pouch on purpose, it brings the coil connector further away from the body so the cable is less likely to be kinked when we bend to do a dig.

The pouch is standing on the floor and not attached to the belt in the picture.

Well I tried it out today, dunno if its gonna work for me the way it is now. Hopefully for Christmas I'm getting the replacement shaft by Reid.

I need some pointers on set up on my new infinium. I am getting a lot of noise. Hard time to get it to calm down to a level sound. I am in a mineral area.
Thank you

Yeah, my wife bought me one o'those straight shafts by Reid awhile back. I really like it. I never thought I'd have need for a straight shaft, but this thing is perfect. It's very well balanced and I can swing that stock search coil with control box on the shaft(not hip-mounted)for hours quite comfortably. I used to hip-mount all the time before I got the straight shaft.:detecting:
Happy Hunting!:)
