A friend wants to buy her husband a water proof machine do you guys have any recommendations? I do alot of dirt digging with the ETRAC and have had some good finds and alot of fun just dont know much about water hunting. Any help would be appreiciated.

I have been using my CTX 3030 in fresh water and it works awesome.:twodetecting::minelab::cheers:

You cant go wrong with TESORO SAND SHARK

Sure you can. Its a PI unit. Almost useless in fresh water. You will dig up more rusty junk than good stuff. The Tesoro Tiger Shark is for fresh water. The OP really has to give more information for ANY of us to give an educated response.

CTX 3030 just came out with firmware tonight to stablize machine in salt water and give better depth. This machine
cannot be beat for dirt and water detecting (Up to 10' deep).

Maybe it can't be beat, maybe it can BUT, how can we assume the person that wants to buy one first of all has 2400.00 and second of all isn't a diver? In MOST of the places I hunt in the water I am positive my CZ-21 will do just as well as the CTX-3030. I have sand and then hardpan clay and 99% of the targets are on top of the clay. I don't need super deep. We can ONLY help when we have solid information.

But I am not even going to say my CZ-21 is the best machine. I am deadly with it when it comes to silver and gold BUT its a high end unit and there are machines like the At Pro which is also a good unit at half the price of mine and a fourth of the price of a CTX-3030. Again it will NOT suit everybody.

Not here to argue BUT here to help and in order to help I need more information on the type of hunting the OP thinks will be done with the machine.

Well scuba, the author stated they hunt with the etrac and wasnt sure how much water hunting would be done.
I agree that your machine is good in the water, and so is the pro. But here is the clincher, there is NO machine
on the market that has the capabilities of the CTX, that can go though iron, and that can be updated through the internet.
As far as the price, you get can all the bells and whistles for less than $2000.00 Now that is a little salty at first, but think
about the innitial investment cost. One machine, not two. You only have to buy accessories for one machine, not two.

The best thing I can say to the author is do some research on the web, call some dealers and compare prices, and maybe
get some info from the wife to see how much she wants to spend on her husband. How serious is he about treasure
hunting?

And lastly Scuba, I know your not here to argue. We all here want to help others.

Stay deadly

I JUST BOUGHT A AT PRO AS A BACK UP TO MY EX-CALL2I.dive 95% of the time some times I relic hunt and wade the ex-call was a bit heavy to use all day.Bangs for the buck the AT was my choice.Time well tell

Thanks for your help. We live in Tennessee so it would be used in fresh water the most but the girl I am advising is hoping to get her husband to the beach a little more. So we are looking for a machine for salt and fresh water and will not be diving just wading. Have looked at the Excall and whites beach hunter 300 sorry about lack of info. thanks

For salt and fresh water you really have 4 good options. As stated the Rolls Royce of detectors CTX 3030, also the Excal, Fisher CZ-21 or older 20, Whites BHID. All will do well in both fresh and salt water, if as stated they fixed the falsing problem in salt water on the CTX.

One thing she needs to know though is cost doesn't stop at the detector. You need a long handled scoop which sets you back almost 2 hundred, waders or a wetsuit and if a wetsuit booties. I would also HIGHLY recomend a PFD for safety.

Any of the other water machines are good for either fresh water or salt water but have problems if you try both. For example any PI machine will hit deep in salt water but will be a total pain in rust infested fresh water. The AT Pro will work in salt water but I heard a lot of ground balancing has to be done with it. The Tesoro Tigershark is also a great fresh water machine but struggles in salt water from all I have read.

I swear by my CZ-21. I have used it in fresh and salt water with NO problems. I have a friend that has an Excal and has used it in both also with absolutely no problems. I also have another friend with a BHID and not a problem with it in fresh or salt water. I have NO experience with the CTX nor do I know anybody that has used it in both areas. BUT you can get that information on the CTX forum.

Any of the machines stated will do the job nicely. The key is to get out and learn the machine, be patient and do not expect gold and silver every time out.

Hope this information helps.

Thanks for the info Scuba, her husband has used whites MXT an XLT so I might steer her towards BHID. You have got me interested in the CZ-21 and will also look more at the EXCALL 2 for myself. Thanks again.

TNTrash, I dont know where your friend's husband will water hunt but they should be advised that TVA has recently banned ALL metal detecting on TVA controlled property.
Why? Because they can.

Be sure and thank one of these government nazis the first chance you get.

Know all about the tva gun toting police, I use to hunt arrowheads on tn. river back in the day. Its bad when they got room in jail for picking up rocks or relics that would be otherwise lost forever.

You just dont need the bells and whisles hunting salt water..... CZ or Xcal. You are digging about anything that beeps... if you are looking for gold. A TID on the beach allows you to NOT dig.... if you do someone else will be going home with that deep good. Even a Sov might fit the bill they can be neck mounted.... just dont be a clumbsy person or water proof the case. Sounds like an AT pro would be great.... but i wouldnt recommend it for salt water..... i think there would be some disappointment.
