Info from hut diggers????

I ran across 2 places this past winter that looked very much like hut sites. They were side by side about 8 feet or so apart. They were at the botton of a ridge that is over 14 feet tall or more. And it looks as though the back side of the huts were facing the ridge. These 2 huts sites are way too square for mother nature to carve them out that way. And the depressions left by them look to be close to a foot or more deep. My question is, would cw guys construct huts at the bootm of a ridge like that? I plan to relocate these huts this next winter and do some heavy digging around there. I was also told that there might be many more of them in that same area.

Huts will be all over the place if there were a lot of troops. Sounds very possible. You'll want to dig outside of the walls too. Most huts had a drain ditch surrounding the hut to run off eccess rain water. Relics are found outside the walls too. Dig very carefully. Some huts contain lots of nice bottles or crock items. Be sure to sift your dirt. Might find peach seeds, cloth, leather, glass buttons, hardtack etc. Good hunting, David @ Dixie

Yes,
It's very common for the huts to be on the ridge side and down near the bottom. Past experiences tell me the 2 you spotted by eye could have been previously dug, but do investigate them, they could just be shallower then most. Most good huts I've dug wasn't even noticeable by eye, and the ones I've dug into , noticed by eye, were already recovered. Good Luck
