Info about Rocky Point

Hi All,
Does anyone have any first hand knowledge about the laws concerning metal detecting in the Rocky Point, Mexico area? We have plans to go there in a few weeks and I don't know if I should take my detector or not. I would just be hunting the beach.
Any information on this subject would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Lanny

I have vacationed in Mexico several times. I would be nervous to detect there. Mainly because Local law is very corrupt. Even if what your doing is perfectly legal, a local law man may want his cut of the loot. This is a situation I would not want to be in. There is also the belief that a detectorist must be carrying valuable finds. This would make you a prime target for thugs. This is Purely my opinion. If you are staying at a resort, you may want to call them and see. A resort would be more protected than public areas. I have heard of people detecting at Chichen Itza and I was told be prepared to have bribe money for the security guards there. Sounds sketchy to me. Some one who has actually done what you are going to do may give you a better sense of how it will work out.

Good Luck

I agree with Android, I have never been there but I have heard of what he is saying to be true. I would not take the chance.

I have been going to Rocky Point Mexico since 1968 and have never had a problem. I can assure you it is safe to bring your metal detector. Follow the same common sense you do in the US and you will be fine.

Cool, there you go Olderndirt. I would feel better about it based on terrymcrane's word.

Enjoy,
Post your finds

Thanks a lot for the information guys. I also called the resort where we will be staying and they assured me that it would be OK to hunt there. We are driving down, so I'm going to stash it in the truck and see what things look like when we get there. Again, thanks for the input...
