Inflatable Question

I was just wondering if anybody on here uses an inflatable boat. Most of my detecting is done scuba diving. I just picked up an older inflatable to use. This should open up a lot more areas on the lakes here in Michigan to get to and detect.

Sending all my Gold in, a few years from now, retire,........Go inflateable or a jetski.........got list of about 30+ old and private beachs already scouted,.....programed into the GPS, .......3 drysuits, 6 Wd's...........should cover the spring and fall hunting,........

You may want to Carry a copy of your Riparian rights, you will need it..............................keep us up on your adventures.............O'Yea...You will Need a Pirate flag also..Good luck.........Obn

Oh how would love to just retire and dive and detect every day. I just got my dry suit certification. I should be in the water real soon. The ice is melting now here in Michigan.

OBN you have a nice plan and I really hope it works out just the way you want it to. But I would venture to guess there are more mermaid locations on your GPS than beaches. Good luck and HH. :minelab:

Joe, you are the helmsman buddy. After alittle reseach I'm amazed more have not done this, seems you can hunt anywere, anytime, and as long as you want..if by sea....

I have a 12 ft alum fishing boat that I used for a while but quickly found a pirate barge. Can hold several folks and their gear, and its nice to be able to take a break out of the sun or rain.

OBN in Michigan you need the landowers permission to hunt the lake in front of their property because they own a pie shaped pc to the middle of the lake. If they challange you and the law is involved you will loose the discussion.

If you're diving its kind of out of sight out of mind but law still applies.

Having said that I use the pirate barge to access alot of places that you just can't get to without some kind of water transportation.

And make some decent finds on occasion. But I have been challenged and have opted to leave rather than have a confrontation with the property owner and or the police. This used to be a great place now if the sheriffs boat see's you out of your boat wading for whatever reason you will get a ticket!

Hi Kaptain,
The Michigan supreme court ruled in I think 2005, we have the right to be in the water as long as we do not cross the high water mark. The pie shape rule does not apply. Just google waterfront property rights in Michigan. So if your feet are in the water, you are ok.

that rulling. it applies to the great lakes, not inland lakes. and what it does basically is gives you the right to walk thru someones property as long as you stay below the high water mark it does not let you play there. i have had this discussion with several people more knowledgeble than i. and i am not trying to start an argument i just don't want anyone to get into trouble over this. i will find out if my interpretation is correct & respond to this post. in the meantime errr on the side of caution, ignorance of the law is no excuse. atleast thats what they've always told me. LOL

Steve, I tried reading up on the issue and I think you are right. A lot of it has to do with the bottom. It seems it is ok to anchor and by diving we would be technically not walking the bottom of the lake which is were the issues are. At the least it is very confusing. Where about in Michigan are you? I live in Canton.
