Infinium vs Seahunter.

I have been deliberating on these 2 detectors and decided to buy the Sea hunter MarkII since this will be my first water detector. After looking at the price of the Infinium and then having to put out another $85.00 for a pair of waterproof headphones, and then having to spend another $50-$130 for a straight shaft to solve a 4 year old problem, I felt I could not go wrong. Maybe hit a few rings then the detector is paid off. I do not understand why this wobby lower unit has not be addressed by Garrett. What do you think? Thanks for all the input. Marty

Actually, that lower wobbly isn't an issue to me at all. A bit of play doesn't affect performance, and as far as I am concerned, a little play on the lower rod actually prevents some falsing from sudden stops when at the end of your swing. I have a Detector Pro which has a tight shaft,, and it was almost impossible to remove that inner rod because of the buildup of silt and sand. Be careful what you wish for.....switching coils mounted on a lower rod in the field might turn into an impossible task with a tight lower rod.

Sea Hunter Mark-II for ocean work will do just fine with a good deal of patience from the operator.

Adjustable twist lock items to eliminate annoying loose shafts are easily available from a hardware store, I got mine from K-Mart years ago, same with the straight orange fibreglass shaft, (ex garden rake handle) fits neatly on an Infiniums lower shaft.
My Sea-Hunter had the same type of stem wobble eliminators fitted in 1985 and they still work perfectly smooth.

Hey Easy,

Good choice for a detector, I have used both. As far as the wobble...mine (INFINIUM) does not wobble, maybe a little play...but the lower rod has added material to it on my Infinium compared to the older shaft on the Mark II didnt have this raised material added to it.

I wouldnt worry about it...Garrett adressed this issue along time ago with the added material to thier lower shaft where it goes into the upper rod.

Good luck! Find some good stuff!

Obtaining one of the new modified lower shafts will reduce the slopping in that shaft only; this new shaft came about for some very loose reasons.

To find and apply an innovative solution to the sloppy shaft syndrome is much preferable as it addresses all shortcomings to all shafts made in the past and can be used equally well on new shafts.

As a bonus the home made shaft slop eliminator can be used on any loose shaft of any brand requiring a snug fit.

One solution fits all.

Plug hole in bottom of shaft with plumbers putty & fill shaft with epoxy problem solved Did it on both SH & LS solid as a rock
Maybe some like the noodle lower but not me. Keep the noodle on the Ace 150-250
