Infinium service?

I am looking at selling my infinium. I havent really ever liked how it performs. I dont want to sell it if there is something wrong with it. I am thinking of sending it into garrett for a checkup. Has anyone done this and what can I expect to pay for it? I dont think there is anything wrong with it, I used it down at the beach and it worked great. But last time I tried to prospect with it it wouldent run stable.

Can you discribe what you mean by "Not Stable".
Was there EMI? Did you achieve good graound balance? Did you have Disc set at zero?
Was the detector in Lock, Fast or slow track.?
Which coil were you using? Were the batteries in good nick?
The Infinium normally runs smoother in iron mineralisation and gold field conditions than at the salt beaches.

I have been having these problems for awhile now. It usially sounds as though I didnt have a good ground ballance. Disc at zero, fast, slow, lock doesnt seem to matter. 8"mono and stock dd. good batteries. I did notice that the headphone jack had the plug pin miss aligned. I fixed that and it did run smoother last time out. Also I get some static in my headphones. I have the adapter to run normal head phones. Could the problem stem from a bad headphone plug?

Garrett service is great. Give them a call. They will give you a return number, you pack up your detector along with your coils and headphones and return shipping. They will will call you and go over any needed repairs, you then decide what you to do. Recommend you find out what's wrong with your machine. Infinium can be tricky but is a powerful detector and a great value for the price.

Yes intermittent headphone connection can cause erratic tones. So check the adapter, the headphones and the control box socket and connector for any kind of bad contact between pins.
Try a different set of HPs. Any old set of mono 8 ohm phones will work. Hi FI stereo HPs will work but only one earphone will function unless you wire them for mono..
The static you mentioned is unlikely to be caused inside the control box, not impossible just unlikely. The wire somtimes fractures where the wire goes into each earphone and this can cause scratching/static sounds.
Check all of the easy stuff that you could fix yourself before you send it away to Garrett. If you are not a handyman then shuttle it of to Garrett.
