I have been considering getting a PI detector for some time now to allow me to go places my VLF won't (brand X.) I read somewhere (don't remember which forum...) that the Gulf of Mexico and its shores have an unusually high mineral content that reeks havoc with even the best PI detectors. Is there any validity to this statement? Salt water and especially the Gulf (of Mexico) is one of the reasons that I am considering the Infinium; that and the fact that it is water proof. (My other detector is water proof and aside from diving, I just like being able to hose the sand and salt off of it after beach hunting or any where else it got muddy or dirty.)
It was also mentioned (somewhere in a forum) or rather implied, that the "brains" of the Infinium are digital and rely on software to operate. Is there any validity to that statement. If so, does Garret offer eprom flashes or chip upgrades as improvements are made?
Thanks
John
